Golden Week Bubbles

It's common practice consider the Japanese as quintessence of Hardworking. This historical connotation strengthen this vision in our imaginary landscape. This deep dedication to the company it's insight in the rising sun culture, where is consider normal to don't use all the holiday allotment.



Beside the traditional aspects, this has heavy unhealthy consequences. Sometimes really unfortunate. They’ve even created a word “Karoshi” that unfortunately defines the mortality due to overwork. In the last administration have been taken measures in order to ensure employee to use all the entitled holiday leaves, overriding the workaholic cultural tendency.



Golden week is the spring lapse between April and May where most of the people punch out their offices and enjoy a well deserved time off. From a first time visitor golden week marks the experience of the new meaning of the word “busy”. Trains are packed more than normal Japanese standard, hotel prices skyrocket. But beside this crowded adventure the country reveals itself in all its insane beauty.



April 29 is the first. Originally used to celebrate the 124th Emperor Hiroito, whom administration ruled 'til '89, it's been recently re-branded first as Greenery Day and then to "Showa day". This last tribute with the purpose to induce Japanese citizens to reflect about the sometimes controversial reign of the former Emperor. It's Very frequent to see people hanging out in a traditional costumes.



May 3rd has instead a less monarchic meaning as honor the promulgation of the 1947 Constitution. This Democracy recurrence normally reflects also the beginning of the warm weather. In a country with probably the highest level of civility and kindness, even the deers are so polite that usually bow before accepting food.



The Day after represents a tribute to the nature but also to the current monarchy. As many identify the term Chrysanthemum Throne with the emperor of Japan, it could have therefore different connotations. Outdoor activities in the parks are a must. Every year, almost 10 millions souls visit Ueno Park: zoo, museums, temples, street food stands and cherry blossom mark this green patch in the map.



Does not matter if the tacky swan pedal boat don't fit in your vision of en-plein air activities, surely possible to zoom amazing details with your lens. Or simply wonder what's the plan in a seagull mind.



5th of May concludes the Golden week, with special regards to the children. Families celebrate the future of their beloved little ones, with the hope of a health and successful future. We're sure that the young adults of tomorrow will manage to maintain the traditions vivid and alive.
